JOGYAKARTA
PRAMBANAN
The biggest Hindu temple complex in Java. It was build in
the 9th century AD, possibly 50 years or so later than Borobudur,
Prambanan was abandoned soon after its completion when its
builders moved east.The largest of these, the Shiva temple,
has been restored and others are being reconstructed. The
50-metre high temple beam 42 scenes from the Ramayana. The
status of Shiva stands in the central chamber and status
of ten Goddes Durga, Shiva’s elephant-headed son Ganesha
and Agastya the teacher Stands in the other chapels of the
upper part of the temple
BOROBUDUR
The world's largest Buddhist temple and the greatest ancient
monument in the southern hemisphere, The temple consists
of six square bases topped by three celular ones and constructed
contemporaneously with Prambanan in the early part of the
9 th century AD. The nerly 1500 panels an the terraces illusrate
Buddhist teaching and tales, while over 400 Budha images
sit in chambers on the terraces. On the upper ciscular terraces,
stupas contain 72 more Budhha images
DIENG
PLATEAU
It is the collopsed remains of an ancient crater.In
the centre, where it is very swampy, these is a group of
five Hindu - Budhist temples. These temples are though to
be the oldest in Java, pre-dating Borobudur out Prambanan.
A sulphur - smelling area of frantically bubbling mind ponds
and the placid lake Warna will complete your exploration
in the highest village in Java. |
